Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly 2006
Château Thivin The 15 hectares of vines are planted on the eastern, southern and southwestern slopes of the hill. They give very personalized wines with a red robe with purple-blue tints and discreet aromas of violet and peony. In the mouth there is a wonderful balance between silky tannins and small wild red berries such as wild strawberry and blueberry. The end of mouth is long and peppery. This Côte de Brouilly is charming and lively in its youth becoming noble and elegant after a few years (3 to 8 years). Wine Advocate The Chateau Thivin 2006 Cote de Brouilly leads with fascinating and intense aromas of smoky, toasted nuts and salted tomato puree. Bright salinity and the unusual suggestion of tomato paste persist on the surprisingly concentrated palate, along with suggestions of smoked meat, juniper berry, and tart black fruit skins. The finish is bright and savory, with a surprising hint of tongue-numbing tannin. While less generous with the sort of overtly ripe berry character than one generally expects of Beaujolais, this Cote de Brouilly holds an undeniable fascination of its own and should be interesting to work with in the kitchen and to follow for another year or two in bottle.
